Debian etch doesn't provide sun java package for 64bit architecture by default. You have to use binary from Sun website, or use backports repository. Unfortunately, current java6 package in backports.org suffers from bug #428142. The fix is available, but not yet made into backport repos. So you have to wait for sun-java6 packages update in backport, or use another way: packages from testing repository .

First, you have to install java-common package. apt-get it, the package will install few other packages needed. Second, download these packages:

• sun-java6-bin6-07-3amd64.deb (23MB)
  
• sun-java6-jdk6-07-3amd64.deb (17MB)
  
• sun-java6-jre6-07-3all.deb (6,1MB)

Kebetulan ada ADSL Router D-Link DSL-520T yang lagi dites. Iseng-iseng coba telnet ke modem ternyata modem ini pakai OS Linux, kernel 2.4.17 buatan MontaVista. cool!
(berarti bisa hack firmwarenya nih? heheh )

Cara mudah trial IPv6

1. Buat account di Freenet6
   
2. Install tspc (apt-get, Debian Etch sudah menyediakan paketnya)
   
3. Konfigurasi tspc:
   Sesuaikan parameter pada file /etc/tsp/tspc.conf: userid dan passwd sesuai account freenet6, kemudian parameter server diset menjadi ipv6.freenet6.net
   
4. restart tspc (/etc/init.d/tspc restart)
   
5. Test ping ke ipv6.google.com
   

• ping6
  
• tracepath6
  
• host/dig ipv6 record pada dns
  
• Browsing via IPv6 (Jika anda memakai Firefox, pastikan parameter network.dns.disableIPv6 diset menjadi False) agar Firefox dapat mengakses Dancing Kame, Dancing Elephant, atau gunung meletus. (ohya, kapan ada dancing horse? ). Situs-situs IPv6 ready lainnya bisa dicari dengan IPv6 google.

There are couple utilities we can use to analyze squid proxy performance, some of them use squid log and produce analysis, while the others get information from squid daemon directly. I used to use squid-cgi program to get information on squid performance, and calamaris to produce statistical report. Squid-cgi is easy to install and setup, but i'm not so comfortable using this apps, because the web-accessible characteristic. I also need to secure the access to squid-cgi interface, to make sure that this app only used for its intended purposes .

Well, I just found another tools (okay, actually this is an old tool, i'm the one who late to catch the trends hehe): squidclient. The function is identical to squid-cgi, it gives same information too. The difference is this app use CLI. The command invocation is simple :
squidclient mgr:info
and voila! you get the squid performance info.

Dan Kaminsky has recently discovered security hole on DNS server, the scary part : it's design flaw! A lot of vendor affected (djbdns is one of the lucky few ). Details available here.

Fellow debian admins, you know the drill, apt-get update && apt-get upgrade quick!. Lesson learned from this incident, quoting Kaminsky:

Excellent design protects you against things you don’t have any information about.
